چکیده

Infusion thrombophlebitis is a common but illunderstood complication (4, 6) of intravenouS infusions. Further drugs given in infusions may cause phlebitis. Confilicting reports are available about the incidence of phlebitis with diazepam, (1,2,5). Even commonly used antibiotics like ampicillin, in infusion increases the incidence of thrombophlebitis and worst offenders are cephalosporins, (5). Among other drugs that cause increased incidence of infusion phlebitis are tetracycline, (I) pelhedine, lignocaine (2) and potassium chloride (5). In this wnrk we have studied phlebitis caused by diazepam and ampicillin.

Lemierre's syndrome followed by acute respiratory distress syndrome successfully rescued by antibiotics and hemoperfusion with polymyxin B-immobilized fiber.

Lemierre's syndrome is characterized by a primary oropharyngeal infection in a young healthy person who subsequently develops septic thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein and metastatic abscesses. We here report an uncommonly severe case of Lemierre's syndrome with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), in which polymyxin B-immobilized fiber (PMX) was used as supportive therapy. A ...
